Human Resources Advisor


An exciting vacancy has arisen within the Human Resources Team at our Preston site for a HR Advisor to join the team. Reporting directly to the Head of HR Services, the main purpose of this role is to provide comprehensive HR support, enabling managers to achieve departmental, site and business objectives through their teams. You will cover primarily the Preston site, but also assist colleagues based at other sites and in the field.

As a HR Advisor, you will:

  • Work as part of the local site management team to deliver business objectives
  • Partnering with the local site management team to provide direction and guidance on best practice management tools and techniques covering;
    • Performance Management
    • Colleague Wellbeing
    • Performance Development Reviews
    • Absence Management
    • Disciplinary and Grievance Issues
    • Delivery of Targeted Coaching Interventions
  • Provide support to the Head of HR Services
  • Ensure personal knowledge and skills are kept up to date through attendance of local briefings and networking events, in order to continually develop both personally and professionally
  • Support managers and supervisors while working closely with the UK Safety Team in achieving objectives by ensuring that colleagues understand and follow safety rules and procedures.
  • Encourage the reporting of hazards and incidents, and also of the completion of safety related actions
  • Local budget responsibility
  • First line approval of Notices of Change, Notices of Salary Change, and Employee Requisitions
  • Participate in HR project work to support the wider UK HR team

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • CIPD qualified, preferably to the CIPD Diploma in Personnel Management
  • Proven experience of working within a HR team, with a strong understanding of HR policies, practices, and application of these in the workplace
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Naturally proactive, innovative, and have the ability to challenge the norm and influence as well as having the desire to continually improve
  • Ability to use a coaching approach to their work, preferably holding an ILM Coaching qualification, or is willing to work towards one.

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, capable of working both individually and within a team, organised, and someone who has an excellent eye for detail.
