An exciting vacancy has arisen within our Engineering team for a Manufacturing Engineer to join the team. Reporting directly to the UK Engineering Manager, the main purpose of this role is to provide technical engineering support for all production equipment, material logistics systems & production processes within the Preston factory operations from the design stage, introduction stage, current and spares manufacturing stages throughout its life.  You will be responsible for generating / maintaining all process maps, production standards, bills of material, any necessary works instruction and CNC programmes for all equipment.

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will:

  • New product introduction (NPD) support during the design phase through to production incorporating design for manufacturing principles (DFMA).
  • Design of Production Cells & Material Storage facility layouts (via CAD) & subsequent implementation.
  • The design, development and project management of new/modified CNC programming & processes relative to all NC type production equipment within manufacturing associated with all customers specified new and modified products/part (typically sheet-metal)
  • Material Management / Packaging Systems for proposal, discussion, and implementation. 
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing / Business techniques through the evaluation of production methods, method improvements, manufacturing techniques and equipment with identification of options, costs and efficiencies with budget assessments and control of costs.
  • All proposed production methods to comply with departmental Operating Procedures, British Standard requirements, and Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Product / Process Work Measurement and evaluation of direct/indirect labour costs.
  • Introduction and maintenance of Production / Process Work Instructions with training of operators to meet the Quality Standards of ISO 9000 Part 2.
  • E/MRP Systems & Bills of Material Administration for new, existing, and non-current products to meet the company’s requirements of the E/MRP system.
  • Facilitating role, linkage between NPI, production / stores operations and spares requirements.
  • Production Engineering Support to any department within the NW Operations of Baxi Heating UK Limited.
  • Compliance with all Engineering Departmental Operating Procedures

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • A proven track record in an engineering role, ideally gained in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ideally the role holder will have Degree / HNC or equivalent in Production Engineering or similar field of study.
  • Clear understanding of production operations and lean techniques.
  • A working knowledge of project management techniques and tools.
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Competent to evaluate process maps, production techniques, manufacturing methods and facilities.
