An exciting vacancy has arisen within our Engineering Team, team for a Project Engineer to join. Reporting directly to the Principal Engineer, the main purpose of this role is to provide an engineering service within BAXI UK Operations for the selection, design, procurement and commissioning of new plant, machinery, automation solutions, buildings, press tools, machining fixtures, jigs and services (along with similar services for the modification and upgrading of existing equipment) as a consequence of

•            The introduction of new products and parts

•            The modification of existing products and parts

•            The efficiency, quality & H/S optimisation of machinery, processes and industrial systems

all carried out within agreed parameters relating to; timescales, cost, capability, and the respective quality specifications, whilst ensuring full compliance with all legislative requirements. 

As a Principal Engineer, you will:

  • Control and implementation of all assigned projects ensuring that original specification, time scales and cost budgets (up to £0.5m) are met.
  • Preparation of project specifications and compilation of costs as part of the departmental justification or for direct submission for Board approval.
  • Responsible for the design, development and the implementation of special purpose machinery, automation / Industry 4.0 solutions, jigs, tools, fixtures, ancillary equipment, and processes utilising company preferred standards necessary for the successful introduction of:
    • New products or parts,
    • Existing product or part modifications
  • Responsibility for all necessary design calculations etc. ensuring all requirements of departmental Operating Procedures, British Standards, Building Regulations; 18th Edition, Codes of Practice, Construction, Design and Management Regulations, ISO 14001, Risk Assessments and Health & Safety Regulations are met.
  • Responsible for the generation of engineering specifications, negotiations of purchasing contracts (up to £0.5m), and the procurement of new buildings, facilities, plant tools, fixtures and equipment utilising company preferred standards.
  • Act as specialised purchasing agents to new and existing customers by offering:
  • A design and development service for production tooling requirements.
  • An equipment, jigs, fixtures & tooling procurement service
  • Responsible for the assessment of current processes with a view to their capability of fulfilling the future business requirements (efficiency, capacity & reliability).  To recommend, specify and implement new production processes (including automation or Industry 4.0 solutions) and layout change advice in order to satisfy the requirements.
  • To generate and implement processes & instructions relevant to all new & modified tool/equipment introductions etc… in order to ensure that the respective personnel are fully conversant with the required standards.
  • Provide technical hand over information to both maintenance & production to ensure the smooth commissioning of any new industrial solution introduced
  • Update of all site services, drawings, and layouts in-line with statutory regulations. Comply with the Engineering Services Department Operating Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • A minimum qualification of Degree or equivalent in Engineering
  • Demonstratable experience in a similar engineering role is essential
  • A variety of engineering skills and have experience of special purpose machine, automation/Industry 4.0 solutions, fixture, press tool design and control systems, plant and services layout and knowledge of civil engineering construction work; experience will have been gained in other companies.
  • A working knowledge of sheet metal & machining process techniques is a desirable requirement of this position as is the ability to work within a team, design objectivity, creativity, project management and interpersonal skills.
