R&D team - Preston

 

An exciting vacancy has arisen within the Research and Development department in Preston for a Research & Development Engineer to join the team.

Reporting directly to the R&D Development Lead, the main purposes of this opportunity include planning, co-ordinating and managing product development projects on a product or research basis.  In addition you will provide technical and creative leadership of the R&D project teams, delivering company product plans as part of New Product Development and Research Processes.

As Research & Development Engineer, you will have a variety of focuses, these include:

  1. Create, develop and promote new areas of technology with particular reference to enabling the company to achieve its objectives for growth and profitability.
  2. To search out and regularly review technologies to improve product offerings.
  3. Be responsible for Approved Detailed Product Request (DPR).  Establishing, technical specifications in response to the agreed documents.
  4. Manage product approval processes to meet the necessary standards and legislation.
  5. To programme / plan the product development / research activities required to meet business targets with identification of resource requirements. 
  6. Co-ordinate workloads of development / research to all designated project team members.
  7. Draw up development and test programmes that effectively validate the product design at each stage. 
  8. Establish component operating parameters and test programmes, in line with the DPR.
  9. Report regularly on development progress to appropriate personnel. 
  10. To continually review the Research & Development process, identifying improvements.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

An engineering qualification to degree level is going to support someone in this role, together with experience within an engineering discipline. You will be a natural planner and effective communicator, with the ability to achieve results to timescales. Being conversant with product standards and regulations, knowing appropriate procedures for the design, development, installation and safe use of domestic appliances would also be of benefit. If you have knowledge of gas/electric, controls technology this will also be advantageous. On a personal level keeping abreast of the latest legislation and standards would also be useful to the successful applicant.
