SHE Manager - Preston

Applications are invited for the position of Safety, Health and Environmental Manager to our Preston manufacturing site. Reporting to the UK Head of SHE and supervising the Preston SHE Advisor you will provide leadership, influence and drive for safety, health and environmental requirements.

The role will see you coach change behaviour at all levels toward further development of a safety culture. You will provide advice, guidance and support on the management of Health, Safety and Environmental matters. Additionally your efforts will also help to retain the site’s ISO 14001 accreditation and you will be the conscience of the Preston site with respect to our safety values. Overall, this is a key position and is an active member of the UK SHE team.

SHE Manager – Preston, additional role responsibilities will show:-

  • Proposal of SHE objectives and targets, including implementation for the Preston site.
  • To lead monthly feeding back performance, tracking actions and introducing new initiatives.
  • Carry 6 monthly audits of departments, feeding back the results and making recommendations.
  • Develop and implement SHE tools, systems and processes across the Preston site.
  • Ensure safety, health and environment information is communicated across the site.
  • Input to purchase of new machinery/equipment and/or layout changes (design risk assessment).
  • Effectively manage the site’s ISO 14001 environmental management system.
  • To provide leadership as we transition from CSR to a more proactive sustainability agenda.
  • To further develop and manage the SHE Advisor (Preston).
  • Provide professional advice to the site on the day-to-day management of SHE issues covering all colleagues, contractors and visitors.
  • Escalate issues to the Operations Director/UK Head of SHE (also deputise for UK Head of SHE)
  • Develop SHE training material and guidance for line managers
  • The role requires flexibility on working hours and allow for occasional travel to other UK sites.

The ideal candidate will have an appropriate professional qualification e.g. NEBOSH Diploma in environmental management and be committed to achieving chartered membership of IOSH. Have at least 5 years’ experience in a site safety role and preferably in manufacturing, be able to engage with employees at all levels and be an accomplished communicator. Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 14001 will also be advantageous.
